Wilcox Sheriff runoff underway

WILCOX CO., GA (WALB) -

Voting is underway for a new Sheriff in Wilcox County. Residents headed to the polls at 7am to place a ballot in favor of Mike Martin or Lonnie Curry.

Both candidates were on the ballot November 6th. By the end of the day Martin (R) had 45.33 percent of the vote and Curry (D) had 33.14.

The race was unusual because there were three independents running, as well as the Democrat and Republican.

Neither candidate received a majority of the vote and that's why there is a runoff today.

Sheriff Stacey Bloodsworth resigned office earlier this year. The probate judge appointed interim Sheriff Corey Ramirez who was defeated during the general election.

Here are the results of the General Election-

Mike Martin (R) 1,377 44.0%
Lonnie Curry (D) 1,149 36.7%
Bob Addison (Ind) 249 8.0%
Hank Collier (Ind) 217 6.9%
Sam McKinney (Ind) 139 4.4%

We'll have the results tonight on walb.com.
