Program helps Valdostans with energy bills

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of Valdostans are getting some help with their energy bills this winter.

The Department of Human Services is giving nearly 2,000 people in Lowndes County a break on their energy bill. Throughout the day hundreds of people lined up to apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

If they qualify they will receive over $300 towards heating their homes this winter.

"It's really really great, I think its really awesome knowing that there's people that need help to pay bills and they have a program like this," said applicant, Cassandra Bethea.

The program will help low-income, elderly and disabled Georgians. Applicants received assistance on a first-come, first-serve basis.
