Hurley takes the stand


Sumter County Commissioner and businessman Al Hurley took the witness stand to testify on his own behalf in his bribery trial about noon today at the Albany federal courthouse.

The federal government has presented texts and recorded phone calls between Hurley and Terrence Parker, a Michigan contractor.

The government says that Hurley was offering to steer county jobs to Parker in exchange for $15,000 to be paid to Hurley.

Attorneys for the government and Hurley's own lawyers questioned Hurley on the stand.

The trial began last week, And could wrap up soon.

 Federal Judge Louis W. Sands is presiding over the trial.

Hurley has been a Sumter County Commissioner for 12 years.
