ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Darton College needs the community to help them expand their 4 year degree offerings.

Darton officials held a luncheon for community leaders Friday to convince them to invest in the school.

It costs approximately $300,000 to add a new baccalaureate degree program.

Darton leaders say they can't rely solely on funding from tuition and the state to expand, so they're asking the community for help.

They say it's an investment that will help the economy.

"The ultimate prize, our reward for this is the economic impact that it will have, if we can grow Darton College to even come close to the size, of say a Georgia Southern, what a great economic impact that will have for Albany and the surrounding areas," said Glenn Tennyson, Darton College Foundation Chairman.

Right now, Darton only offers one 4 year degree in nursing.
