Remember to think green this holiday season

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

During the holiday season, we're expected to produce an extra one million tons of garbage per week in this country.

Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful is urging you to reduce, reuse and recycle this Christmas.

Experts say little things such as bringing reusable bags when shopping and reusing wrapping paper can greatly decrease the amount of waste that ends up in southwest Georgia landfills.

"Just want to remind everybody that they need to reduce, recycle, and reuse during the Christmas and holiday season. It's easy to do. I mean look at the items you're buying and notice how much wrapping is on them. What part of the wrapping can you recycle," said Judy Bowles, Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful.

Experts also say you can even buy a live tree that can be replanted after Christmas.
