Sumter State Court Judge Russ Barnes resigned from the bench yesterday, and Governor Nathan Deal accepted.
Judge Russ Barnes went missing for a day in early November. When he failed to show up for court the next morning, and all out search was launched for him, including a state helicopter search.
He was found several hours later in his SUV at the Americus Walmart.
Law officers say he left home because of personal problems.
He was taken to a hospital to be checked out then transferred to a crisis center in Albany.
