A large crowd gathered at a funeral home in suburban Atlanta Thursday night to remember a Valdosta State University freshman who was found dead in a campus dormitory as we learned her parents found out about their daughter's death on Facebook.

17-year-old freshman Jasmine Benjamin was found dead on a study room couch November 18th.

Her parents say a friend forwarded a Facebook post about the teen's death to them before authorities notified them.

Friends and family attended a private funeral service Thursday night in Benjamin's hometown of Lawrenceville.

Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

New surveillance cameras in dorm elevators on campus should be operational Friday.

The university planned to install them before Benjamin's death but there was a delay because the equipment was on back order.

A campus vigil in Benjamin's memory will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at Georgia Hall.
