ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An 81-year-old Dougherty County woman found three weeks ago nearly starved in filthy conditions is improving.

A retired Dougherty County School teacher, Verma Walker was found close to death in her Betty's Drive home November 7th

Thursday her pastor, Kenneth McMillian of Hines Memorial CME Church told us Walker is recovering in a rehab hospital in Columbus.

Dougherty County Sheriff's Investigators arrested her sons, 59-year-old Vernon West and 55-year-old Roderick West on elder abuse charges. 

They remain in jail as an investigation of her assets continues.
