ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Critics say Georgia has some of the least stringent ethics rules for lawmakers in the country.
An alliance of conservative, liberal and independent groups are working to change that.
The Georgia Alliance for Ethics Reform held a town hall meeting in Albany Wednesday night to share information about and get input for an ethics reform bill they're pushing.
The bill would place a $100 limit on gifts lobbyists could give lawmakers.
Supporters say it would also create a more transparent government.
"People have to have some measure of trust in their government, and I think you saw this summer with the failure of TSPLOST all over the state that people don't trust their government and if we can't that trust restored we're really paralyzed when it comes to those big issues we have to resolve," said Sen. Josh McKoon, (R) Columbus.
The alliance is in the middle of a 9 city town hall tour of the state.
