ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Not even the drought could offset an annual Christmas tradition.

Wednesday, Water Gas and Light Crews hoisted the downtown Christmas tree just in time for the big parade.

The 25 ft. tall evergreen was not the original choice.

The tree they put up Wednesday morning wasn't in great shape because of the drought, so they went to a backup and had it installed Wednesday afternoon.

It was cut down at a Water Gas and Light substation in Albany. The tree will be lit during the parade Saturday night.

"It's a totally green tree this year. We have over 2400 lights all LED. They're old fashioned. Our theme this year is "An Old Fashioned Christmas. We're all excited about that. As we know Officer Fleming who lost her life in the line of duty last year, her family will be lighting the tree," said Lorie Farkas, Water, Gas & Light.

And you can watch the Christmas parade live on WALB beginning 6 o'clock Saturday night.
