Teen shot; APD seeks black Impala

Albany Police are trying to determine if a midday drive-by shooting was gang related. A teenager was shot in the arm on South Van Buren Street around noon Wednesday.

People who live in that neighborhood tell me they heard one shot. And soon after police were on the scene, but the Albany Dougherty Gang Unit paying special attention to this shooting which has neighbors on high alert.

A drive-by shooting in broad daylight many neighbors startled by the midday crime scene. "I was just like 'Wow!'" Jolanda Lassiter learned from us that a teen had been shot just blocks away from her home.  "That's crazy you know? What if kids had been around here?"

APD Officers and Gang Unit investigators interviewed witnesses. They say 18-year-old Cenqwarn Harris was riding his bike in the 700 block of Holloway Avenue when three or four black men in a Chevy Impala pulled alongside him and exchanged words.

That's when a passenger pulled a gun and opened fire. He was struck in the arm.

The shooting behind the Exceptional Students Program on Corn Avenue. That school was placed on a Code Yellow Alert.

One day removed from a Molotov cocktail attack thought to be gang related, violence like this is changing the way people live.

"Keeping yourself in your house with your doors locked and everything secured and keeping the kids inside the house," said Lassiter.

And police are still looking for that black Chevy Impala last seen on Dorsett Avenue. They think the young men who were in that car are teenagers. If you have any information call CrimeStoppers at 436-TIPS.

Harris is at Phoebe Putney Hospital in fair condition.
