Gifts needs for Mayors' Christmas Motorcade

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Leaders in a lot of south Georgia cities hope you'll help them spread holiday cheer to those in Georgia's mental health hospitals.

The Mayors' Christmas Motorcade program gathers new, unwrapped gifts for adult patients.

You can donate anything from personal care items to movies and clothing.

All of the gifts in our area will be given to patients at Southwestern State Hospital in Thomasville, where many of the adults live year-round.

"Many of whom don't have any connection to their family and would be forgotten at Christmas time. So this is a wonderful program to provide Christmas gifts and the holiday spirit for the residents of our seven mental health hospitals here in the state of Georgia," said Kristin Caso, the Marketing and Special Events Coordinator for Recreation and Parks.

Gifts will be collected until December 11th.

Santa will lead a motorcade to deliver the presents in Thomasville on December 13th.  The Georgia Municipal Association started this program in 1958.

Drop off locations:

- Albany Recreation & Parks Administrative Office (1301 N. Monroe)

- Mayor's Office (222 Pine, Suite 580)

- Thronateeska Heritage Center (100 W. Roosevelt)

- Engineering Department Office (240 Pine, Suite 200)

Gift suggestions:  personal care items (toothbrushes, cosmetics, soap, lotion, etc.), watches, wallets, radios, CDs, movies (G and PG rated), playing cards, puzzles, table games, art supplies, stationary and stamps, cookies and other snacks, hats and caps, pajamas and slippers and casual clothing.
