CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

The city of Cordele is making plans to clean up dilapidated properties and increase its tax digest.

They are in the process of putting a land bank into place. That will make it easier for the city to take ownership of properties with delinquent taxes.

These redevelopment projects will create jobs, enhance property values, stabilize neighborhoods and reduce crime.

"A lot of these properties that have been abandoned, and they are dilapidated, and really causing issues in neighborhoods are around the neighborhoods that we own and operate, it also just contributes to so much crime in the whole community," says Susan Leger-Boike, Cordele Housing Authority Executive Director.

The housing authority director is hoping city councilors will approve the land bank proposal.
