Tree lighting to kick off holidays in Valdosta

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta has a holiday look tonight after Lowndes County and Valdosta city workers spent the day decorating the town.

The City of Valdosta put up its 30 foot Christmas tree and decked the City Hall.

The county also decorated the old courthouse with hundreds of feet of garland.

On Wednesday, you're invited to help the city kick off the holiday season when Valdosta Mayor John Gayle lights the city's Christmas tree.

"Citizens who come and join us on November 28th can enjoy visits with Santa, they can talk with the Mayor, help the Mayor light the tree, be here for the festivities, we have cocoa we have refreshments, and a good time singing with our Moody Air Force Base children," said Semetha Mathews, with the City of Valdosta.

Wednesday's tree lighting ceremony starts at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. County leaders will also light their tree at the historic courthouse on Thursday at 4 p.m.

And you don't want to miss the downtown Holiday Open House Festival Saturday.

The annual Christmas parade starts at 5 p.m.
