ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Dougherty County leaders are helping the state move forward with a plan to improve a dangerous highway interchange.
Monday, commissioners agreed to sell this piece of land near the intersection of North Jefferson Street and Philema Road to the Georgia Department of Transportation for $33,200.
The DOT needs the land to construct new, safer on and off ramps to the Liberty Expressway at Jefferson.
"It is driven by the need for safety. That is reputedly the most dangerous intersection in the County. And the Georgia DOT is going to rebuild it and make it safer," said Commissioner Gloria Gaines.
Officials hope to have this project completed by 2014.
Commissioners will take the final vote on the bid at their next regular meeting on Monday, December 3rd.
