A man who was shot late Friday night outside a northwest Albany hotel has been released from the hospital, just as authorities continue to search for the gunman.

WALB was on the scene late Friday night after officials say 41-year-old Thomas Lee Bennet was shot in the back at Merry Acres Inn on Dawson Road.

Police say around 11:30, Bennett was walking back to his room from getting ice when he saw two men coming towards him with a shotgun.

He ran into the foyer of one of the buildings and closed the door. That's when authorities say one of the men shot him in the back through the window.

"It could have happened anywhere, but it just so happened to happen right here, and we hate that, but the main thing that we hate is for the victim, and his family who came here to celebrate the holidays, and just thank goodness he is going to be okay," said Bo Henry, Co-owner

Merry Acres Inn is offering a $5,000 reward for anything information leading to a conviction.

Owners there have turned over surveillance video to police in hopes of finding the gunman. Right now no suspect descriptions have been given.
