When it comes to buckling up in Georgia, not everyone has to follow the law.
Georgia law exempts some people from the seat belt law.
Authorized emergency vehicles responding to an emergency are exempt that includes fire, EMS, police and even utility workers.
However, many departments have policies that require their personnel to wear their seat belts. The Georgia State Patrol is one agency where seatbelt use is required.
"Can we do it, under the letter of the law yes is it advisable with all the crashes I've worked in my lifetime in this department I would say no," said SFC. Kevin Rexroat, Georgia State Patrol.
According to the governor's office of highway safety wearing a seat belt increases your chances of surviving by almost half 45 percent.
