As your heading home from your turkey dinner make sure to stay safe behind the wheel. The Thanksgiving holiday weekend is known to be a busy one, but this year the roads could be even more packed.
AAA projects more than 43,000,000 Americans are hitting the roads this Thanksgiving, which is up 7 percent from last year.
Turkey, dressing, the whole nine yards, it's enough to get folks traveling to see friends and family this Thanksgiving season.
"We come every year and get together and we usually have around 50 people," said Alice Montgomery, Holiday Traveler.
Every year, Alice Montgomery travels down to Dawson all the way from Virginia to visit family.
"Anywhere from 9 and a half hours to 12 usually - usually 12," said Montgomery.
And she's not alone. Millions are hitting the road this holiday season but police say watch out they'll be stricter than ever.
"You'll be seeing a lot lower tolerance for speed limits and things like that and a lot more officers out their enforcing it," said Jon Segroves, Albany Police Department.
Police say the drop in gas prices has a major impact on folks and their travel plans.
But 94 year old Earnest Allen says a gallon of gas is still too high for him.
"I can remember back when it was that price when I was just a young one and I bought it for 10 and 11 cents a gallon," said Earnest Allen, Holiday Traveler.
But no matter what the price, most folks say the cost is worth the time spent with family.
Police warn people to slow down and pay attention to their surroundings when they head back home this thanksgiving season.
