ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Second Harvest of South Georgia has handed out nearly 1.4 million pounds of food from all its locations so far this month.

The Albany branch has distributed more than 42,000 pounds just this week.

Food bank officials say it's not just homeless and jobless people who need help, but many people with jobs are struggling to make ends meet.

"But with fuel going up and down, and things can change and of course with the things that come about, one little rift in their economy can cause a meal or two to be missed. And that's what we're supposed to do here," said  Jim Case, Second Harvest Albany Branch Director.

Food bank officials say they have distributed huge amounts of food to make sure everyone has good meals around Thanksgiving.

They'll need donations to build back up supplies for the Christmas Holiday period.
