ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The Albany Police Department made an effort to strengthen its relationship with the community by serving a Thanksgiving meal, Tuesday night.
APD's Family Protection Unit held its second Annual Thanksgiving Dinner.
Hundreds of people from all over the community enjoyed a traditional holiday dinner.
Officers say positive events that bring together police and the people they protect help keep crime down.
"A part of reducing the crime rate is interaction with the community. The community has to be able to tell us what's going on and be comfortable interacting with law enforcement, so this is a part of trying to build that bridge," said Investigator Kawaski Barnes with APD.
Investigator Barnes told us the community is the first line of defense against crime and cooperation and trust are vital to keeping the crime rate low.
