Georgia Pecan's expansion creates more jobs

An economic boost for Worth County with the expansion of a pecan company.

Georgia Pecan Company cut the ribbon on a new facility on Highway 112 Tuesday morning.

The growth of the company has allowed them to hire more than 20 full time workers and 20 seasonal employees nearly all from Worth County.

The new facility will allow them distribute more pecans, an estimated 5 to 6 million pounds, for shipment around the globe.

"From where we were at we've almost tripled our employment. It helps the whole local economy a lot from truck drivers to people having daily jobs," said Georgia Pecan Company President Scott Craft.

Georgia Pecan relies on local growers to supply the nuts. The new facility also includes a gift shop and deck where you buy pecans and desserts.

It's open Monday through Saturday during pecan season. Georgia Pecan will still operate it's old facility on US 82.
