Central Albany church feeds pre Thanksgiving lunch

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A central Albany church served hundreds of people a pre-Thanksgiving lunch Tuesday,  and gave them groceries and clothes, too.

Greater Cutliff Grove Missionary Baptist Church dished up bar-b-que ribs and chicken outside their West Broad Avenue sanctuary.

Inside Second Harvest of South Georgia provided more than 12,000 pounds of food, four big truckloads.

Hundreds of people filled shopping bags and boxes with the food and clothes.

"We know that this area has a lot of poverty in the area, " said Pastor McKinley Drake.   "We know that people would show up. We just wanted to give service to the community. Our church has been here 100 years and we wanted to let our presence be known by doing the work of God."

Second Harvest said most of the food given away Tuesday was provided by their corporate partners who hope to make sure no one goes hungry this Thanksgiving.
