Volunteers feed hungry on Thanksgiving

A volunteer group needs your help to feed the hungry on Thanksgiving.

Open Hands Ministry is holding a Community Thanksgiving Meal for the less fortunate and shut-ins at Lenny's Market in Americus.

These trays will soon be filled with food for the Community Thanksgiving meal.

"Turkey, Dressing, Green Beans, Sweet Potato Casseroles," says Annie Belle Moss, Organizer.

Annie Belle Moss has been helping with the Thanksgiving community dinner since the creation of the Open Hands Ministry in 1984.

"This is one thing that we can give back to the community, we feel like the lord has blessed us, so it is very good to give to other," says Moss.

About 300 meals will be handed out to those who might not otherwise get a good Thanksgiving dinner.

"The fellowship is very great, that they are with somebody on thanksgiving day, and when we deliver to the shut-ins, most of the time they want you to stay a little while, and fellowship with them," says Moss.

The ministry was created to feed others not only during the holidays, but also on other days throughout the year.

"Just to be able to take them a meal that puts a lot of smiles on their face, knowing that someone cares enough about them to bring them something on that particular day," says Tommy Willis, Volunteer.

And they won't only be handing out food. Free haircuts will be given to anyone who wants one.

"We got some people that just actually cant afford a haircut and or to the barber shop," says Willis.

All in the name of spreading joy during the holiday season. Food donations and volunteers are needed for the meal.
