Community asked to monitor city pool

Albany City leaders are asking people in South Albany to help them protect the city pool. Twice in two weeks, thieves broke into Carver Pool and stole equipment.

Sunday morning city recreation employees noticed the gate to the pool's equipment house was bent.  The locks were broken and someone had stolen the pool vacuum pump cover.

Last week crooks stole a refrigerator during a break-in at the same building.

The thefts hurt an already strained recreation budget. "So we want to be able to keep it open for them and provide programming for them," said city aquatics coordinator Robyn Fink.  "But when we constantly have to replace things, it can cut down on that. So if your are in the community, keep your eye out. Let us know when something's happening."

That stolen vacuum cleaner cover is made of metal.

City officials want metal recyclers to watch for it.  And they ask people in the area to call 9-1-1 if they see anyone suspicious around the pool.
