Bainbridge man survives after being hit by train

A Bainbridge man remains in a Tallahassee hospital, three days after he was struck by a train.

Police say 35-year old Conery Robinson was walking east on the railroad tracks near the corner of Calhoun Street and Old Albany Road.

Police say the engineer blew the whistle, but Robinson did not get out of the way in time.

The City of Bainbridge used its new Code RED warning system for the first time after this accident.

"It was helpful in notifying the community of an incident. That a road was going to be closed. Traffic was going to be diverted. It went out very quickly and it worked really well," said Public Safety Director Eric Miller.

Robinson is in the ICU at Tallahassee Memorial recovering from head and upper body injuries.

Police say they do not suspect Robinson was under the influence of anything when he was struck.
