ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

For the tenth year in a row Dougherty County Police donate much-needed food to an East Albany service center that helps people in need.

Friday morning, officers delivered more than $1,900 worth of food to St. Clare's Neighbors in Need program. The gift includes 30 complete turkey dinners for families of five, plus enough food to feed that family for the rest of the week.

"We understand that Thanksgiving is a popular time for people to give. But we wanted to make sure that families had a meal for Thanksgiving and at least six meals after Thanksgiving," said DCP Detective Tamiko Whitlock.

"This is food that will get us past Thanksgiving. So that's what we need. People have to eat everyday. We worry about next week, what people are going to eat. So this food is going to help us get through," said Neighbors in Need Asst. Director Tina Appollonio.

Dougherty County Police say several community groups helped them by donating food, including the Westover High School cheerleaders.
