ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A food giveaway drew more than 100 people Thursday in downtown Albany.

Second Harvest of South Georgia provided more than 5000 pounds of food. The peanut butter, bread, vegetables, and fruit were handed out in the yard at the Faith Community Outreach Center, a homeless shelter at North Monroe and West Broad.

The Artesian Way Chapter of the Ministers Wives and Widows donated $500  to the Outreach Center today, to sponsor their community service.

Norma Heath of the Minister Wives and Widows Artesian Way Chapter said "A tremendous amount of people in need and you don't realize it. Until you get involved and then you see the need, so that's we've stepped up and made this organization part of our budget."

The Faith Community Outreach Center also runs a shelter for women with children, which they say is full tonight.
