Albany trauma specialist say most of the trauma cases they see result from car crashes, and too many of those crashes are caused by distracted drivers. Now they're spreading a message in honor of Trauma Awareness Month.More >>
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
One in five deaths can be linked directly that is why the American Cancer Society is asking smokers not to smoke.
It's all part of their 37th Great American Smokeout.
It's put on every year to draw awareness to the dangers of both smoking and second hand smoke.
The goal is to get people to become aware of what smoking and other types of tobacco does to their bodies, and to set a date where they can quit.
"Nothing good that we know of comes from smoking cigarettes, so if people can quit one day hopefully that will give them the confidence to be able to quit for a lifetime," said Dr. Steven Wolinksy, Phoebe Putney Chief of Staff.
Regardless of their age, smokers can substantially reduce their risk of disease, including cancer, by quitting.
