BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) -
Another south Georgia city is working to make sure residents get timely warnings in case of an emergency.
The Bainbridge City Council approved a contract with Emergency Communications Network to join the company's Code RED system.
It sends voice messages, e-mails, texts, and social media alerts during severe weather, utility outages, or other emergencies.
"We already use social media and our local news, but this is going to be more directive. It's going to be more personalized and we think it's going to benefit our citizens greatly," said Communications Director Adrienne Harrison.
The system uses mapping technology and can be customized to send out a message only to areas affected by an emergency.
