ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County school superintendent Joshua Murfree has been released from his contract by the school board.

He's leaving in a month.

Murfree and the board reached an agreement to terminate his existing contract and enter a new agreement that will end his employment December 18th; however, he'll continue to be paid through June 7th, when his original contract would have expired.

During Murfree's term the school system has been under fire for the CRCT cheating scandal and several investigations into the Title one funds, grants and the free and reduced lunch program.

State code says board members can start searching and even hire a replacement a year before Joshua Murfree's contract is up.

The board voted four to three, with Velvet Riggins, Anita Williams-Brown, and Milton "June Bug" Griffin opposed.
