LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

A new Lee County Commissioner was sworn in Tuesday night.

Luke Singletary replaces Betty Johnson in District 2.

In September, Johnson was so upset commissioners did not approve changes she recommended to a compensation study, she promised to step down as soon as a replacement was elected rather than serving the final two months of her term.

Singletary says he's ready to tackle a big issue in his district.

"Fire protection out in my area and parts of my district is fire protection class 10, which is below what most of the county is, so we'll look to try to get that improved and at least get us a pump station if not a fire station out that way," said Singletary.

Singletary easily defeated Democrat Mary Egler last week.

Johnson was the only woman on the Lee County Commission.
