When the Albany Panthers won their second straight league championship last summer, many of the team's veteran players said that was a perfect way to end their career.
After some rest, many of those players are ready to come back and try to win a third straight championship.
The Panthers announcing Tuesday they have signed a dozen players including quarterback Cecil Lester, receivers Antwontis Cutts and John Harris and defensive backs Damian Daniels and Demetrie McCray.
Lester, Cutts and Daniels were a part of last year's PIFL championship team.
After missing last season due to an injury, McCray wants another shot at a title and has convinced many of his teammates to join him in that goal.
That makes head coach Lucious Davis very happy to return the nucleus of a team that knows how to win championships.
"They know what it takes. They know what I expect from them. Just to have those guys in the locker room with the mixture of the new guys we are bringing in. We just need that core. To have those guys back is a big plus for us", said head coach Lucious Davis.
The Panthers open the 2013 season March 9 at Louisiana.
The home opener is March 16 against Columbus.

"We joke with them. They are kind of like the Brett Favre's of the team. They don't want to go through training camp. We know that. They will miss that part of it. Then they will come and be ready for the first game. I just think it is a matter of time for the guys to sign to come back" said Davis.
Head coach Lucious Davis believes the return of these players will persuade others to come back for another year.
That includes receivers Antwone Savage and Clenton Rafe.
