SYCAMORE, GA -
The Sycamore police chief remains in Intensive Care on Tuesday night after he wrecked his cruiser in Tift County.
34-year-old Justin Rutherford was headed back to Turner County on the Interstate after responding to a call Sunday night when he swerved to avoid hitting the car in front of him.
Troopers say he was not wearing his seat belt, and is lucky he made it through such a horrific wreck.
Friends are showing support for Rutherford and his family on facebook and hoping he makes a full recovery.
"I think he is pretty lucky, and it should be an example to everyone to wear their safety belts because the car is pretty tore up and Justin is a really good guy and we down here hate to see anything like that happen to anyone," said his friend, Scotty Cameron.
Troopers say officers are exempt from wearing their safety belts unless their department has a specific policy.
You can help the Justin Rutherford fundraiser account, through Colony Bank in Ashburn.
