THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -
Over the next week, grocery and liquor stores will be packed with patrons preparing for their Thanksgiving feasts.
"I've only been in business three years, but each and every year, things have picked up a little bit. Thanksgiving gets pretty busy, it really does. With family coming home and people visiting, yea it picks up pretty well," said Top Shelf Wine And Spirits Owner Raymond Austin.
But while Austin does appreciate the business this time of year, he says it's very important to drink responsibly.
"We all know that alcohol, too much, does impair your ability to think, it impairs your vision of distance and reaction. So too much of anything is bad for you. Including alcohol."
The Thomasville Police department says they will be on the lookout for any and all drinking violations.
"With the holidays approaching of course we are always on the lookout for people who are violating the laws when it comes to alcohol, consuming alcohol, and driving vehicles. And also children underage getting alcohol into their hands," said Lt. Eric Hampton.
Austin says his store is very strict when it comes to ID's and in no way condones adults furnishing alcohol for minors.
"First of all it's against the Georgia law. Second of all kids we know are not as responsible as adults as is, but when you throw alcohol in the mix, you can really have trouble on your hands."
Police say if someone does buy alcohol for a minor and that minor gets into an accident, the man or woman who furnished the alcohol can be liable to civil or criminal prosecution.
Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is punishable up to 12 months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
