OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

A Daviess County woman arrested on more than a thousand charges related to child pornography worked in several jobs that involved being around children.

In a press release the Kentucky State Police say they have "determined that Sarah Cox was employed by agencies that involved being around minors (e.g., child daycares and learning services) in the Owensboro area. She also served as a nanny and child care provider."

Police are now attempting to find out if Cox produced or shared pornography using local minors. They say that anyone who has used her service should contact them immediately (Call Detective Jason Pagan at 270-685-3927.)

"I don't believe that Sarah would do anything like that to any child that she was in charge of. You know, we worked together in church nurseries," said Michelle Cox.

Sarah Cox's mother, Michelle tells 14 News her daughter has had childcare jobs in the Owensboro area and was professionally trained in England as a nanny, so Tuesday's arrest was surprising.

After serving a search warrant, Kentucky State Police charged 25-year-old Sarah A. Cox with 1064 counts of Possession of Matter Portraying a Sexual Performance by a Minor, which is a class D felony.

KSP says they've been getting several calls from parents concerned that their children's pictures could be in those materials.

Michelle tells 14 News that Sarah was a victim of child pornography when she was a young child.  Michelle says relatives told her that Sarah was searching through images online in hopes of locating images of herself so she could put that dark time in her life behind.

"I don't believe that she's a perpetrator. I believe that she's investigating," Michelle said.

Michelle tells us she's just waiting for the truth.

"Granted, if anything has happened to anybody's child in this town or anywhere, I'm sorry and I pray for them,"  Michelle said.

Cox was arrested without incident at 8:30 Wednesday morning by the Kentucky State Police and Owensboro Police Department units.

She was charged and taken to the Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro.

Cox was charged by the Kentucky State Police ICAC Task Force as a result of an undercover investigation into the possession and distribution of images of child sexual exploitation.

With a warrant, detectives seized evidence that they say was being used to distribute child pornography. It was taken to the Kentucky State Police forensic laboratory for examination.

Cox is in jail on $45,000 bond. She has a preliminary hearing in Daviess County Court set for November 19.
