THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -
Veterans at a senior living center in Thomasville were honored Monday.
Residents of Southern Pines who served in any military branch received standing ovations during a presentation and luncheon.
Members of the Thomas County Sheriff's Office presented the colors.
One of the guest speakers was Mitzi Zipp, who went to work as part of the "Rosie the Riveter" campaign to get women in the workforce during World War II.
"The official came to our school and said they were looking for some help for the summer working in the fields harvesting. And a group of us we were cheerleaders so we did everything together. I mean if one did it, we all did it," said Zipp.
Many other women went to work in factories during World War II producing munitions and other war supplies.
Mitzi Zipp worked in the fields during the Rosie the Riveter Campaign.
