DAWSON, GA (WALB) -

Incumbent Dawson Mayor Robert Albritten demanded and got a recount on the paper ballots from last week's race, which he lost by 30 votes.

Political newcomer Chris Wright got 755 votes on Tuesday, and Albritten received 725.

Elections supervisor Carolyn Williams says that the paper ballots will be recounted by hand, and the electronic vote totals taken by machine will stand as recorded on election day.

Albritten has served as Dawson mayor for several years, despite multiple legal issues.

Albritten was charged with speeding and driving under the influence in February of 2007.

In 2003, he plead guilty to charges of DUI when he crashed into another car, injuring a woman.

In 2005, Albritten was sentenced to 12 months probation and fined $9,000  for allegations he falsified life insurance forms.

12 felony counts were dismissed and nine were reduced to misdemeanors. He plead no contest to those nine charges.

Albritten is a mortician, and Wright is an apprentice mortician.
