Valdosta St. nabs top seed in Division II playoffs, receives bye

As expected the Valdosta St. football has earned the top seed in Super Region 2 as the playoff brackets were released on Sunday.  The Blazers receive a first round bye and will play the winner between 4th seeded West Alabama and 5th seeded Miles College game on November 24th in Valdosta.

Carson-Newman, who finished second in the South Atlantic Conference, earned the Super Region 2 No. 2 seed and will also receive a bye next week while SAC champion Lenoir-Rhyne was named the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 Fort Valley State out of the SIAC.

The 2012 postseason marks the 12th time that Valdosta State has advanced to the NCAA Playoffs, including the fourth time under Head Coach David Dean. The Blazers last entered the postseason as the region's top team in 2007 and went on to win its second national championship.

Coach Dean said "This is a very tough region. This is probably the most balanced region that I've ever been associated with all along in all the years that I've been coaching. There's a lot more parity in this region and I think anybody from the number 10 team all the way to the number one or two team can beat anybody on a given day."

Valdosta State enters the 2012 postseason with an 8-2 record.
