Driver takes off after serious crash

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A man wanted on several warrants crashes his car, then escapes from the wreckage and takes off on foot.

Albany Police say 27 year-old Michael Brown was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Impala south on South Mock Road at a high rate of speed, when he lost control of the car.  The car turned sideways and went across lanes of traffic, before hitting an embankment and then a tree.

Officials say the car flipped several times before coming to a stop on its roof, but Brown was able to get out and took off running.

A Dougherty County Police officer caught Brown, who was then transported to the hospital.

The initial investigation revealed that Brown has several outstanding warrants including one for contempt of court and a probation violation. Charges pertaining to the wreck are pending.
