ANDERSONVILLE, GA (WALB) -
Some Georgia residents spent the weekend getting healthy outdoors while visiting state and national park sites.
The first annual President and Patriots Park to Park Bike Adventure lasted three days and two nights.
Folks started at the Florence Marina in Omaha and biked 46 miles to Plains, making stops at the Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park and the Andersonville National Historic Site.
This bike tour is part of the Get Outdoors Georgia program that encourages people to "Get Out. Get Dirty. Get Fit." in Georgia State Parks.
"Trying to show connectivity between the park and the bicycle, trying to show families how easy it is to go through the nice Georgia state routes, as long as you do it safely, some back ways you can take to the parks, and just get active," said Julio Portillo, River Valley Regional Commission Bicycle Pedestrian Planner.
About 30 people from all over Georgia participated in the bike tour.
Organizers hope to make this tour an annual event.
