People walk to raise awareness
TIFT CO., GA (WALB) -
In Omega, folks got out today to walk in honor of those killed by drunk drivers.
The South Georgia Walk Like MADD 5-K brought out tons of people who say drunk driving affects everyone.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving say their mission is to eliminate the problem and support victims and their families.
"Here in Georgia we lose about 300 people every year to drunk driving, that's about one everyday. Nationwide there is somebody killed every 52 minutes and somebody injured every 90 seconds so we're here to make sure we can get the word out on that and let everyone know that there is an alternative, that every one of the incidents is preventable," says MADD state director Barry Martin.
Officials say 10,000 people die each year from drunk driving.
