ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Veterans Day is around the corner and people in Albany spent the day recognizing those who have served our country.

The 5th annual Salute to Veterans Ceremony was held at the Veterans Amphitheater downtown.

South Georgians showed up to pay their respects and to honor the veterans of Dougherty County.

Event Coordinator Paul Murray says it's all for a good cause.  An auction they held today raised money for the Purple Heart Outdoors Hunt.

"They bring in special ops people and people who have been wounded in action, and they bring them down here to the Albany area, and put them u in the plantations, and they go hunting," said Paul Murray, Event Coordinator.

After the ceremony, a parade, led by the American Legion Train, made its way to the VFW on Gillionville Road to continue the celebration.
