ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The 9th Annual Can Do Food Drive just wrapped up in Albany, and organizers are disappointed in donations.
The food drive, sponsored by Cumulus Broadcasting and Second Harvest of South Georgia Food Bank, gathered more than 1400 pounds of canned foods in three days.
That is less than last year, and far short of their goal. They blame the troubled economy, but organizers appreciate the generosity of people who did donate.
K-Country 104 Program Director John Blake said "One thing I've noticed is the people who come out here and give the most are the people it's pretty obvious that at times they probably were in the shape where they needed food. And they've seen sometimes people need a helping hand."
Food bank officials say they are seeing increasing calls for food from South Georgia charities, and more food drives are planned.
