VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The smell of barbeque filled the air in Valdosta today as the Police Department cooked out at the station.

The officers smoked more than 100 Boston butts they're selling to raise money for their annual "Shop With A Cop" event for underprivileged children in the area. The cops raised more than $1,500 and said they had a great time barbecuing together.

"It is exciting, you'll see the guys in the back joking and laughing with each other. We talk about old police stories. It's just a great thing, it's a good relaxation for us," said Veonotis Williams, VPD officer and event coordinator.

The police officers will continue to raise money for the Shop With a Cop event.

They'll take kids Christmas shopping at Walmart on December 17th.
