Jackets want 1-AAAAA title

Posted: Updated:
THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

We have reached the final Friday in the high school regular season. Except for the GISA AA state classification which starts their playoffs tonight.

But for those closing out the regular season, several games decide playoff berths and one big one decides a region championship.

That game is in Thomasville.

4th ranked Thomas County Central hosts surprising Harris County.

The Tigers have won five straight games including all four of their region battles.

Thomas County Central is also unbeaten in region play and has rolled off eight straight wins.

The Jackets success this year has them eyeing a trip to the Dome to the play for the five A title.

However, they are not overlooking Harris County and what putting a region championship on the board at Thomas County Stadium will mean in the future.

"My son always tells me in 2005 we lost to Lee County by one point when we didn't win the region championship. So, he says dad everytime I look up there I see my number not up there. We stress to them "One for the Board." That has been our big theme here for the last couple of weeks", said Thomas County Central head coach Bill Shaver.

Thomas County Central won their last region title in 2009.

Game time is 8:00 p.m. Friday in Thomasville and you can watch the highlights of this game and others at 11:00 p.m. on WALB News Ten.
