ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

"Bringing jobs to southwest Georgia", that was the focus of an economic development forum Thursday afternoon in Albany.

Georgia's Director of Economic and Community Development, Charlie Gatlin, talked to leaders from several area cities about ways they can improve development in their towns.

Gatlin says focusing on the needs of people in the community can help attract businesses and a minister in attendance told us he's ready to make a difference through economic development.

"Think about the customer and the customer's business needs and how you can meet them. I promise you if you do that, you'll realize that this community can meet the needs of a lot of businesses," said Gatlin.

"I will spread the gospel of economic development to tell people how important it is. Then I'm going to recruit some people from my congregation and my peers in the ministerial rank to say we need to be involved in these various areas," said Mt. Zion Baptist Church pastor Daniel Simmons.

Gatlin also stressed the importance of regionalism. He says when surrounding towns work together, they can attract more jobs.
