ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

If you're a weekend thrill seeker who enjoys getting dirty, then there's an upcoming event that will be right up your alley. MCLB Albany is hosting its first ever Dirty Devil Dog Mud Run.

This isn't your typical 5-K. There's a lot of splashing, some crawling, and mud. Lots of mud.

The Marines are used to this physical challenge and they're opening it up to the public.

"We really want to give the community a taste of what it's like to be not just a Marine for the day, but have fun with the Marines and get down and dirty," said USMC Capt. Kyle Thomas.

And dirty after all is the name of the game. This is first year for the Dirty Devil Dog Mud Run at MCLB Albany.

It's designed similar to other popular mudder events where your body has to kick itself into 4 wheel drive to complete the challenge.

"First off all you can expect to get wet almost right out of the starting line. When they run it, they're going to run down the canal and come up and run over some of the obstacles we have set up, some barriers. From there a half-mile to a mile, it will be pretty dry. It's going to be a hilly run in the last half of the race with one mud obstacle after the next," said Thomas.

The Marines will be saturating the mud leading up to the November 17th event which begins at the canal and meanders along the nature trail for 3.1 messy miles.

"It's not a trot," say Thomas. "However we have designed the course to fit. Anyone can bypass any obstacle at any time. They can stop at anytime and they can start the race at anytime," he said.

So far 150 people have signed up for the challenge and they're hoping more will take on the mud run as plans already underway for an even tougher course next year.

Online registration right now is $25. Or your can sign up the day of the run which starts at 10 am.
