ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Georgia Republicans will gain a supermajority in the State House if an independent representative changes his affiliation.
Rusty Kidd from Milledgeville says he's considering joining the Republican Party.
A two-thirds majority would allow Republicans to override gubernatorial vetoes and send proposed constitutional amendments to voters without any Democratic votes.
Democratic Representative Carol Fullerton says that would be bad for the state.
"A supermajority, even if it were reversed and the democrats were getting it, I don't think that's a healthy thing for making laws that serve the people of Georgia," said Rep. Carol Fullerton, (D) Albany.
Pending the outcome of one special election, the GOP will have a supermajority in the state Senate.
