ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

They risk their lives on the battlefield, but they also help kids here at home.

Wednesday the Marines kicked off their annual Toy for Tots campaign.

From now until December 9th you can donate an unwrapped toy that will be given to children who might not otherwise get anything for Christmas.

Last year donations were good, but they hope they'll be even better this year.

This year we would like to exceed our year's previous goal of 14,000 toys, we would like to jump it up to 16,000 toys. Instead of helping 4,000 needy kids, we can help 6,000," said USMC Gunnery Sgt. Ernest Thompson.

You can find Toys for Tots drop off boxes at a lot of places including Walmart and Toys R Us.

The program serves nine south Georgia counties.
