ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Food Bank officials say without a successful canned food drive this week some South Georgians may not get holiday meals.

The 9th Annual Can Do Drive got underway today at the Publix Shopping Center on Dawson Road.

Cumulus Broadcasting is teaming up with Second Harvest for the drive to provide food for 170 charity agencies in Albany.

Food bank officials say the need is increasing and every can is important.

"I don't care if it's one can, one case, or one pallet of food.  We're going to put every bit of that to use. Whatever they give us we'll make it work," said Jim Case, Second Harvest of South Georgia Food Bank Branch Director.

The Food Drive at Publix runs through Friday from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Their goal is 8,000 pounds of food.
